Princess Armicha Pension House

Fernandez St. corner Dacuan Rd., Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines

The Princess Armicha Pension House is a good quality budget priced place to stay in Puerto Princesa City Proper. It is easy walking distance to most of the main city area, MacDonalds, Chowking etc. 🙂  and just a few minutes drive to the Airport.

The rooms are clean, the internet is good (for the Philippine Islands), and management responds very fast to get it back up when they are notified of WiFi connection problems.

My rating is excellent for the price. We paid 1,350 pesos per night for a double room with hot showers, and breakfast for two in the rooftop eating area. We could also use that open area for sitting at any time, and the WiFi was also very good there.  The breakfast was good, and I liked the pancakes; they were different though, thinner and crispier than American hotcakes but not quite like crepes.  I did like them though, but I should have brought my own maple syrup 🙂

I was quite comfortable here for 5 nights, even with the smallish room.

Room details: Double bed, single bed, wardrobe and table with TV. Air conditioned. Decent Bathroom with hot and cold shower.  Beds linen and towels were changed every day, just make sure you leave your key at reception so they know you are out, and they can enter the room.

Daluyon Beach And Mountain Resort

One of the best hotels in the Sabang area of Palawan, and only a short ride to the Underground River, now one of the Seven New Natural Wonders of the World.

However, one feature that caught my eye was the wording “the only resort on Sabang Beach to offer our guests Air Conditioning and continuous power supply“.
Other options have Electricity only between 6pm and 6am according to most information I have seen.  I do doubt if this is the ONLY Hotel or Resort with its own 24 hr generator. UPDATE: Other hotels do have power for more hours than that, and I noticed that Sabang has more solar panels and windturbines (albeit small ones) than anywhere I have seen yet.

A very friendly place to stay, with the host and staff being very nice.

Our accommodation had one bedroom and one living/cooking/dining room and a bathroom, but just a cold shower, no hot water. The bedroom was airconditioned, and a stand fan was available for the other room. Having a fridge, rice cooker, kettle and single gas ring for cooking was very useful for a longer stay.

And I must mention, this was the cheapest place we have stayed at so far, with a quoted nightly rate of 750 pesos for our rooms (One Bedroom Duplex). They also have more expensive options if required.

It isn’t 5 star, but then neither is the price. I give this place 100% for value for money.

Bulwagang Princesa Inn

This hotel has a Swimming pool and hi-speed internet, but unfortunately we used neither of these facilities in our overnight stay. They had a problem with the Internet router at the time, so we were unable to connect, although they did have the service engineer coming out to check it on the next day.

The rooms were comfortable, the food in the restaurant, which was surprisingly large, was nice, and overall, it was a pleasant place to stay.

The staff were very nice and helpful.

There is a tour desk on site which helps guests organise excursions to popular attractions.

This is a nicely presented hotel, hot water in the shower, and a sliding shower screen ( a nice change from some of the shower curtains recently experienced locally).  It is slightly higher in price than most I have stayed at recently, but maybe worth the extra 200 pesos per night (A$5 at Feb 2013).

Breakfast is not included, although is available for about 110 pesos in the cafe, or even less in the Robinsons Mall just a very short walk, maybe 3 minutes away.

The city proper is about 10-15 minutes away by multi-cab, for a few pesos, about 10 pesos.  We paid 40 pesos for two of us in a tricycle to the City.

The Free WiFi available in the rooms works quite well for most of the time, although, it is quite slow at times. WiFi internet varies a lot in most areas around here.

My Experiences:

Very thin walls, I was able to hear the TV in the next room, it was faint but noticeable.  It was very easy to hear people walking along the corridor between the rows of rooms, especially at 6am when many people seemed to be moving around, without worrying about the noise as they talked between themselves.    They clean the rooms at about 2pm, I could easily hear them vacuuming the room next door…

The day before your last day, reception rang to ask if we needed a bus to the airport. That was a good touch.
